Another blighted property in the Woodmere subdivision in Harvey where a six-year-old girl was found murdered last month will soon be coming down.
The Jefferson Parish Council on Wednesday ordered the emergency demolition of the building at 2616 Destrehan Avenue. It's among a group of dilapidated properties in Woodmere that Councilman Mark Spears, who represents the neighborhood, is pushing to have torn down.
Earlier this month, the Council approved the demolition of a blighted apartment building at 2636 Destrehan Avenue. The demolition was carried out a couple of days later.
Efforts to demolish blighted properties that have been abandoned and boarded up for six months intensified after the body of six-year-old Ahlittia North was found in a trash can in the 2800 block of Destrehan Avenue.
