NEW ORLEANS, LA-- Today, Mayor Mitch Landrieu and Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter entered into a friendly wager on Saturday’s NFL Playoff game between the New Orleans Saints and the Philadelphia Eagles. The bet promises a “cultural gift” and a “community gift” to the city with the winning football team.
“Our city and every member of the Who Dat nation has the utmost confidence in our Saints and we can’t wait to see them take on the Eagles in Philadelphia, getting the Black and Gold one step closer to making another trip to the Super Bowl,” said Mayor Landrieu. “In addition to having the best team in the NFL, we also know that we have some of the greatest cuisine and music in the world. But we don’t expect to be sending any to the ‘City of Brotherly Love’ anytime soon.”
Each Mayor’s wager includes an assortment of items for which are unique to the city they lead.

Bets aside, Landrieu and Nutter are strong partners in an effort to end America’s culture of violence in urban areas across the country. Together, they created “Cities United,” an initiative to bring focus and attention to this important issue. Over 50 cities are now on board and New Orleans is set to host the first Cities United conference on February 26-27, 2013.
About Cities United: One of the greatest epidemics facing our country is the death of African American men and boys at the hand of other African American men and boys. Formed in 2011, Cities United is a diverse coalition of mayors working in partnership with aligned organizations dedicated to reducing violent deaths among Black men and boys. Cities United was established to bring mayors from across the country together with community leaders to create opportunities for Black men and boys to achieve their full potential and live long and productive lives. Today, along with Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter and New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu, over fifty mayors have joined the coalition.
About NOLA FOR LIFE: Developed in May 2012, NOLA FOR LIFE is New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu’s comprehensive murder reduction strategy.
