Original cast members from playwright Harold Ellis Clark’s award-winning Fishers of Men perform a staged reading of the play, Friday, December 6th at the historic LePetit Theatre du Vieux Carre, 616 Saint Peter Street, at 7p
Set six months after the 2010 BP Oil Spill, the play surrounds Bishop James Perriloux, an ex-con and controversial pastor of a nondenominational mega-church in New Orleans, who sends men from his congregation into the city’s streets late at night to rescue lost souls. Two potential converts threaten to wreck the foundation of Perriloux’s ministry and place the characters’ lives in danger. The Times-Picayune said, “Fishers of Men poses vital questions of seeking redemption and justice in a crime-ridden community...questions go compellingly unanswered by the edge-of-your-seat ending of the play, leaving the audience to carry them out to a community in need.”
The reading comes via an invitation from the annual Words & Music Conference coordinated by the Pirate’s Alley Faulkner Society, whose 2013 theme is Faith and the Search for Meaning as Inspiration for the Arts. The reading is free for conference attendees. Tickets for the general public are $15 (cash preferred). For details visit www.wordsandmusic.org.
